Follow these steps to knock in your bat and get it match-ready:

1. BAT CARE ESSENTIALS
Start with a complete bat care kit – including mallet, linseed oil, fibre tape, anti-scuff sheet, toe guard, and grip applicator.
2. 1ST COAT OF OILING
Using a clean cotton cloth, apply the first light coat of raw linseed oil evenly across the blade (face, edges, toe). Avoid over-oiling.
3. 2ND COAT (AFTER 2-3 DAYS)
Allow the first coat to fully absorb. Apply a second light coat and let it sit for another 2–3 days.
4. START KNOCKING-In
Once the bat has absorbed the second coat, begin gentle knocking-in with a bat mallet, focusing on the edges and toe. Avoid the splice and back.
5. 3RD COAT & CONTINUED KNOCKING (OPTIONAL)
If needed, apply a third coat of oil after 3–4 more days. Continue knocking-in to harden the surface gradually, building confidence and readiness.
6. FINAL PROTECTION
Apply fibre tape along the edges (the most vulnerable area), and an anti-scuff sheet to the bat’s face for added protection.
IMPORTANT:
Even with proper knocking-in, mis-hits on the edge or toes may still cause damage.
Always treat your bat with care - especially in early use.
